itsaboycake.gifI thought it would be fun to share the news with my coworkers in a way I knew everyone would love”-through chocolate! I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with such a caring group of women, all of whom have been champions of our “baby project” since it was still in the planning stages. On the way into my office, still in shock from the news, I stopped by the bakery at Ralph’s in Encino. After ordering up a triple-chocolate cake with the words “It’s A Boy” scrawled across it, I had the woman helping me tape up the box practically mummy-style so that no one could peek once I’d brought it into the office. As soon as I walked in the door, everyone wanted to know the answer to the $64,000 question, but I revealed nothing”…saying only that there was a box in the kitchen that contained the answer, which we’d all see after lunch.

Thankfully, lunch was only about a half hour away; I don’t know for how long I’d be able to keep the news a secret! After an informal poll was conducted, with more people thinking “girl” than “boy”, we sat down to a delicious BBQ lunch that included mac-n-cheese (another common craving of mine) from a new place in town, named, appropriately enough, Mom’s. I called everyone into the conference room after we finished and brought out the cake box, still sealed. Apparently my warning not to peek inside under any circumstances was well heeded!

With great fanfare, I lifted the lid and everyone was thrilled to see the blue frosting, though I know my coworkers”…I could have told them I was having a hermaphrodite alien child, as long as I presented the news in the form of chocolate! Our conversation from that point on centered on whether boys were easier than girls, less expensive, etc, as well as the lovely mealtime topic of circumcisions. I managed to save a few pieces of cake for Daniel and I to eat at home, and luckily, enough of the lettering was preserved for this picture. I have to say, it was a sweet end to a truly momentous day.
